Star Victorian greyhounds Excavation and Mepunga Reward meet in a match-race (7.48pm, Sky 1) at South Australia’s Angle Park this Thursday night.
It’s a series that Excavation dominated last year with a track record performance (a time of 29.84) which still stands. He also went on to win the Adelaide Cup and then the Topgun at The Meadows on the opening night of Dream Chasers.
Mepunga Reward heads to Adelaide after a short stint in Brisbane with the main purpose being the Group 1 National Sprint final.
You’d expect Excavation to lead, but if Mepunga Reward is on his hammer it’s going to be absolutely game on.
Other match races are Woodside Johnny and Dalwhinnie (8.02pm, Sky 2). A cracker between Mallee Beauty and Launching Pad winner Dashing Slay (8.12pm, Sky 1), then Barefoot Zulu against Sapphire Crown winner Bourne Model. (8.23pm, Sky 2).
The fastest greyhound of the series is the overall winner, which carries automatic entry into the Adelaide Cup final.
As history suggests, the Adelaide Cup is a crucial race to win when vying for a spot in the Topgun – which kicks off Dream Chasers on Saturday November 8.
Later in the night (Race 5) Victorian young gun Traumatise has his first race at the track ahead of Cup heats next week. He’s won four of his past five which includes an extremely fast time of 29.61 at The Meadows.
